Martensitic stainless steel is a type of stainless steel that contains high amounts of chromium and has a martensitic structure. A martensitic structure is a structure formed as a result of the hardening of steel after being subjected to heat treatment. As a result of this process, the steel becomes harder but less durable. Martensitic stainless steels provide high hardness, strength and wear resistance.
If stainless properties are expected in tools or molds, martensitic stainless steels should be selected. High hardness and mechanical values can be obtained by adding water to these steels.
Martensitic stainless steels are harder and have higher strength properties than other types of stainless steel. However, its corrosion resistance is lower than other stainless steels. Martensitic stainless steels have less welding ability than other stainless steels and therefore welding operations are more difficult.
WHERE ARE MARTENSITIC STEELS USED?
Martensitic stainless steels have been used in many industries. For example, it is widely used in applications such as cutting tools, gears, bearings, suspension parts, injectors, underwater equipment, especially knives and other cutting tools.
