Ledeburitic 12% chrome steel, very high resistance against abrasive and adhesive wear due to a high volume of hard carbides in the steel matrix, good toughness, very good dimensional stability, high compressive strength, very good base material for PVD/CVD coating as well as nitriding due to its secondary hardening properties. Similar to AISI D2.
1.2379 or DIN X153CrMoV12 is an alloy in the cold work steels group. In this category, adequate carbon content results in full martensite hardness and remains in the form of undissolved carbon carbide. 1.2379 material is a ledeburitic steel containing 12% chromium. 1.2379 steel is very suitable for cutting and crushing since it has high wear resistance and high toughness. Since its toughness is better than 1.2080, it can be used wherever 1.2080 materials are used. It can be used by nitration or ferritic nitrocarburizing. Due to the secondary hardenability of 1.2379 tool steel, it is also suitable for PVD/CVD coating, and additional nitriding and coating of the surface is easily possible. This steel is also offered in powder metal condition. (1.2379 Plus) 1.2379 materials contain an average of 1.55% carbon. Other alloying elements included are chromium (12%), molybdenum (0.8%) and vanadium (0.9%). It is highly resistant to abrasive and adhesive wear. Due to its good mechanical properties, this steel can be used in many different applications.
